About
People tend to make better decisions when they can use data to reduce uncertainty in the problem at hand. That’s a lot of what measurement is about, and most of my professional life has centered around measurement data, helping people manage it, ensure its integrity and gain insight to problems in Risk Management, Technology Management, Manufacturing and Environmental Science. My methodology builds on proven techniques drawn from operations research, technology risk, actuarial science, quality management and other quantitative methods. I have been fortunate enough to work in both small and large organizations in settings that include insurance, manufacturing and laboratory services.
It has been a long learning process, and it continues. Through this blog I would like to share some of what I have learned. It reflects my own personal bias toward practical, affordable ways to get things done. Topics are a bit eclectic, including some how-to tutorials and commentary about technology, tools and occasional bits of general interest. I hope to inform, to offer personal insights and maybe even entertain a bit. Comments are always welcome.

My education and qualifications include a Master’s degree in Management of Technology and Innovation from the University of Waterloo and professional credentials as a Certified Information Systems Control (CRISC) specialist. I also hold an M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Western Ontario.
